reflection on 1.6 "feeding the need"

In order to have continuous professional growth for individuals and groups, it is important to think critically about those issues that impact on practice, positively or otherwise, and make strategies for improvement.

In the lesson of “feeding the need”, we were considering the technology integration professional development needs at our workplace and evaluating our own collection of resources, setting strategies and or plans, how we can utmost use the information we have so far curated in meeting the needs of our colleagues at the workplace.

I have learnt  new ideas and the following deserve mention.
The impact of CCTI course on my profession development. Most of the colleagues do lack the skills I have so far, and also commend that CCTI has added me value in terms of platforms that are educational like you tube, curation sites and others, the application and relevancy of these platforms has been a mystery and could not be felt until now.
There are a lot of skills missing in teachers most especially learning to evaluate a good educational site from which to obtain up-to-date information and reference.
In future it will be so much imperative to further address the needs either as a mother ministry of Education or through empowering us who have benefited from this course. Here we that have benefited from this course are expected to have acquired both hard and soft skills, social, collaborative and effective management of a professional learning development using ICT.

I have much hope that planning sessions for staff in collaboration with institute administrators can help pave the way forward. The analysis shows that most of the staff are not “computer illiterate” but the basics they possess cannot make them suite the interactive, social and collaborative class we are advocating for. Project based learning, learner centered instruction and amalgamation of “live score” of the student-teacher and teacher-student cycle, as emphasized by most organizations like UNESCO, BTC and learners are not at the receiving end but will need an environment where they become facilitators of their own learning.
I have believed further in the CCTI course because so far, much has been achieved and very much relevant to my engineering trade.

Managers of institutions will need to make schedules as refresher oriented to enable the staff update their knowledge, skills because negative attitude is suppressed by certain, concrete, realistic, and very positive change subjected to an individual. They need to upgrade on basic computer Microsoft applications so that they are used to all ICT equipment and internet applications.

I have found out that my sites and information that I have gathered in all my platforms will be very vital in preparing, sharing, facilitating while addressing the needs of my colleagues.
These include

Recapitulating the main ideas of this presentation, I have observed and read though most of the documentation, and have experienced a transition in attitude towards use of social medium, and ICT tools and most references guiding us towards the UNESCO ICT policy. At this particular time, it makes real sense to plan to put to action using the necessary reference information, videos, websites, blogs and people of outstanding integrity in this approach. I believe my colleagues will find this approach so much challenging and direct to the point in curbing down the challenges that accrue in the preparation and try to impede delivery of classroom and workshop sessions.

REFLECTION 1.5 'TRAWLING THE NET'

Static websites have their content rarely updated, and their pages may consist of contacts, organization history, and mission statement among others.
Whereas blogs are regularly updated and the content there in is date specific.
It is interesting to note that I have observed that most of the websites have now integrated blogs so that the some content will be regularly updated. So one notes that a blog is more flexible and much easier to setup and thus makes them dynamic.
Again wiki space is more challenging, the review and editing of the page is done by anybody  in the group and can be re-edited every time, the challenge will be on the consensus of the  knowledge of individuals about the topic  and objectives.
I wish to under list the criteria for evaluating educational sites.
1.       Check, scan and understand the URL of the site, in here one has to check for domain name, and its relevance to the content searched. I have realized that sites that have “edu” in their URL are experienced educational sites and very academic.
For example,
 http://www.opencolleges.edu.au/
2.       A teacher has to check on the “philosophy, background and “about us “ of the site, there one can get the quick glimpse of what he or she should expect.
For example
3.       Also the teacher can also trace for the indicators of quality information, like some added links and their validity.
4.       Also one can directly go to the purpose of the site. Is it educational or commercial…
5.       And the coverage of the content is sufficient.

In summary;
I have been empowered by this lesson on the following ideas.
Am now able to evaluate a site, fast enough to know what it is talking about by scanning the URL, the mission statement and the location.
I have been exposed to many links so much useful for my profession as references.
More so, I have been empowered to seek and curate the content information for future use for my trainees.
My way is now clear and I have gotten the momentum to a clear path to my professional learning net work.
I appreciate the team work exhibited by my course group members in the wiki, and it is so challenging to find answers. But sharing is so much caring…

Such contributions end up starting new knowledge and generate the debate so much more

REFLECTION ON 1.4 'SHARING IS CARING'

…Content curation, a process of sorting through a vast amount of content on the web and presenting it in a meaningful and organized way around a specific theme.  It involves… http://www.bethkanter.org/content-curation
As a curator, I have learnt that other than being a content consumer, I now know how to select the best content; I can make a decision on what to take and what fits to my classroom setting, I can add in some content to enrich my presentation, and am now the one to decide the mode of presentation.
Only what is relevant for a particular group will be selected and annotated to suit that particular group. I have also learnt that I have to use much more reference information and make sense out of it and then share what utmost suits the class.
I feel confident of being a content curator because, I believe in a changing technology, and therefore need to keep the eye at the fore front towards getting the current trend of technology, consult necessary sites and resource managers to harness the potential of ICT in my engineering trade. I feel ready to integrate this skill in my profession and have the faith that It will improve my training delivery to an extended period of service in vocational training.
Organizing and sharing of resources is of great value to me because it actually abides by quality content, accurate details of reference and such information is useful and can be easily referred to and by so doing it boosts professional learning. The skill of searching, “screening” and sharing of content that is needed is highly desired and is of great value. I cherish content curation because it will enable me stay informed of the field am in.
This is the best tool to pass on valuable information to a very big network because it does more of visualizing the page instead of only saving links which can be mistaken; this guides the readers that may be of little competence in searching for data.
I recommend content curation as the best mode and would like all readers out there to open accounts with pinterest.
The only challenge i found was that there is too much content that can not be read at a time i need to take time to analyse the sites i pinned.

reflection on 1.3 "is it better at the movies?"

You tube is good for illustrations and video based education and also presents a collection of educators. I was able to follow most of them most especially in TED-ed.
One notes that this platform is one of the biggest and best collections of videos on the internet.
I was able to explore through the basics of making you tube channels, uploading videos. I liked the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMk1drkmSB8 introduction to you tube.

I was able to upload videos from my laptop to my-you tube channel and then uploaded them to my blog. Repeatedly this will enhance my professional learning because video illustrations are key in visualizing instruction and makes science real.
Use of wiki space was so interesting and a plus to my understanding because I had never used it and more so am now familiar with URL.
To me the best resources were observed in TED education and among others the following deserve mention.
I also created a play list
a)  Sharing the facts of design;
b)  Professional learning videos
c)  Steam traps plumbing.
And I earmarked the interesting videos to watch later. These include:

My video is leaf type drill jig at list has been published on my you tube channel.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCENmQ9nYbuQFFL5kgtYgSWQ

1.    Basing on my goal that I made in my blog…

GOAL: TO REALIZE PROOF OF CONCEPT THROUGH APPLICATION OF ICT IN VOCATIONAL TRAINING INSTRUCTION.”

Am explaining the concept of jigs and fixtures that is taught in theory to practice thus proving the concept. I have by so doing integrated the existing knowledge I had on design with the knowledge I have so far obtained from CCTI i.e. using you tube platform, ICT equipment like You cam, how the educators express themselves in videos and this is relevant to my trade.
2.  My professional learning is progressing, I was ably presenting ideas on video and most importantly when I uploaded the video I saw related videos and have highlighted them to watch later so that I expand my knowledge.
I was also able to contribute to the development of criteria for evaluating a resource site basing on the two sites that we were assigned i.e. TED education and Khan Academy. Through watching videos I could subscribe and that makes me part of the community henceforth.
3.   When I evaluated the sites I visited, I was able to find the following.
a)  Most of them had objectives they were made,
b)  Were giving accurate information,
c)  Were clear and audible enough,
d)  Could give reference for more correspondences at a later time
e)  And above all could address a certain class of people others could fit best in young age, others middle age, and others to researchers for example how a wound heals itself, the great brain debate by Ted Alschuler among others.
I have tried to follow the above criteria while making my video, by making it clearer, and improving my audibility, I have given the name of the soft ware used to make the jig, and the core functions/objectives why it is needed. Lastly, I gave the blogs incase one wanted to comment, and of course this video suits only those working in mechanical production and manufacturing sections.

4.  A special recommendation is given to the following I found in TED

Also what part of the brain does a human use? Amused me.
I SUBMIT.

UPLOADING A VIDEO FROM YOU TUBE

I HAVE ALSO LEARNT HOW I CAN USE YOU TUBE IN MY DELIVERY BY CREATING VIDEOS.
THIS WOULD BE ONE OF MY BEST EXPERIENCES SO FAR MET. I DID NOT HAVE AN OPERATIONAL YOU TUBE.
IN THIS REGARD, ONE CAN BE ABLE TO EXPLAIN TO A BIGGER COMMUNITY BY SHOWING A VIDEO DONE BY THE TRAINEES THEM SELVES AT SITE OR IN AN EXCURSION. THEY WILL LIKE THE EXPERIENCE LOOKING AT THEM SELVES . I THINK AM GOING TO INVOLVE MY CLASS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

REFLECTION ON THE LESSONS LEARNT IN 1.2 SMART WORKERS NETWORK

I have found this course interesting! many ideas have come up, some of the challenges i did not earlier notice.
much useful information has been learnt among which the following deserve mention.

*As regards to social media, i have learnt features of a professional learning network, and how a perfect learning network can be assessed.

*Smart workers network aimed at appreciating and  incorporating different ideas to cherish value and quality.

*How social media can help me create a better personal learning network.

*I also explored many groups that are using social media like facebook, linkedIn, google + these professional groups have enabled me to realize the importance of ICT in any environment, the information will cover a wide area/ regions or continents where individuals could not physically interact but have to share knowledge for development.

*what i have realized , through the interaction with many people of different calibers, will enhance the pursuit of my goal.
these are people with experience and have lived exemplary life.

I believe i will make a smart learner with time because these people have put in their time and ideas ,it is only a question of consistence with learning.

steps that i would wish to take to achieve my goal

  • Visiting the internet always so as to respond to directions given by the tutor.
  • Contributing to views suggestions given by other colleagues as a base of social sharing, networking and collaboration.
  • Considering remarks given by the tutor and or other persons as a base to pave the way forward.
  • Follow more educative links relating to professional learning networks for more references and advice. as well as persons of consistent experience and quality social work
  • Plan evaluation and action at every end of assignment.
  • Practice use of the social networks at my workplace.
so much challenging!!!
ooh happy blogging.

REFLECTION ONE : THE COURSE CONTENT SO FAR COVERED in Module: Professional Development with Technology..

I am aware of some cross cutting issues that i did not know before; these may include
* factors that could influence a teacher's progress with technology for example Attitude, ICT competence (ICT in this case refers to devices such as computers, laptops, tablets and similar devices), Self-beliefs, Teaching experience, Professional development, Accessibility to technology, Technical support, Leadership support among others.
* The UNESCO ICT Competence Frame work for Teachers, its value and objectives.
* the factors that contribute to PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN SOCIAL LEARNING.
* FORMATION OF BLOG AS A PLATFORM TO AID DISCOVERY ON TRUCK.- i have learnt how to use a blog for collaborative teaching and look forward to learn more about it.
finally the goal that i have set can only be achieved right from constant personal evaluation, and hard work. The listed there in will be my areas of interest throughout the whole course.
happy blogging.

OUR LINKAGE TO AN ICT- MULTI SKILLED PROFESSIONALISM.

Together we recognize the tangible effects of skills transfer to learners or students at what ever levels,  the difference will be found at the workplace where all the skills learnt and or taught are expected-exhibited. in this era of skilling Uganda, trainers needed to be equipped with the necessary knowledge because technology is fast developing, with support from stakeholders in Education Ministry instructors, teachers and others needed to exhibit concentration to demonstrate a clear conscience on how to use ICT equipment in a classroom set up and work shops or laboratories.
on the other hand learner centered method of instruction will require us to give the learners full support and guidance to search information, analyse and share it with others in power point presentations, research papers and so much more.
Am very much grateful for Common Wealth of Learning, Ministry of Education and Sports- Uganda, and whoever is at it to transform teachers, provide them space in this innovative ICT era and  as we match together to achieve Uganda Vision 2040, and Skilling Uganda in particular.

The following are my expectations for CCTI course:
BY THE END OF Common Wealth Cert. for Teacher ICT Integration (CCTI) COURSE, I EXPECT TO PUT MUCH EMPHASIS ON:
  • Learning how to conduct active teaching and learning.
  • Learning how to engage learners in active learning.
  • Learning how to conduct an online classroom using ICT avenues for a more collaborative and interactive class sessions.
  • Inclusion of innovative approaches in training like digital equipment for research and development of content.
  • Using Project based learning most especially for our practices in our engineering trades.
  • How to conduct planning for ICT  Integration in curricula
  • Reviewing my submissions and or contributions to the group and submission of assignments whenever so required using ICT tools thereby mastering concepts
  • How to design online learning programs.
  • Visualize instruction using multi media.

thank you very much
